Check before you hire
Type a contractor's name or RECI registration number. We check it against the Safe Electric public register, in seconds, for free.
Unregistered electrical work is illegal — and uninsurable
Fuseboard replacements, new circuits and rewires are restricted works under Irish law. Only a registered electrical contractor can do them and certify them.
No certificate means problems selling your house, claiming on insurance after a fault, and no comeback if the work is dangerous.

What is RECI registration and why does it matter?
RECI stands for Registered Electrical Contractor Ireland. It is the designation given to electrical contractors who are approved under the Safe Electric scheme, which is operated by the Electro-Technical Council of Ireland (ETCI) and overseen by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities. Registration is not optional for notifiable electrical work: under Irish building regulations, any new domestic electrical installation, consumer unit replacement, or rewire must be carried out by a RECI contractor and certified on completion. A homeowner who allows an unregistered contractor to carry out notifiable work may find their home insurance policy invalidated and will be unable to obtain a valid completion certificate, which is required when selling a property.
The check this tool runs covers the things that matter most before you hire. First, it confirms whether the contractor appears on the Safe Electric public register and retrieves their RECI number. Second, it verifies active Safe Electric membership, which requires the contractor to hold valid public liability insurance and to work to the current IS 10101 national wiring standard. Third, it confirms eligibility to issue a completion certificate: only active RECI contractors can sign off notifiable work with a legally recognised cert. Fourth, it surfaces the contractor's county and contact details so you can confirm you are dealing with the right company before you commit.
To use the tool, enter either the contractor's business name or their RECI registration number in the search box above. The check runs against the Safe Electric register data and takes a few seconds. If a contractor is not found, do not proceed: ask them for their RECI number and run the check again, or contact Safe Electric directly at safeelectric.ie to verify their status before any work begins.
