TRUST & TRANSPARENCY

How we verify an electrician

Every electrician listed on this site is cross-checked against the Safe Electric register. Here is exactly how we do it.

The four checks

1

On the register

We match the number or business name against the Safe Electric register of Registered Electrical Contractors. No match means we can't verify them — full stop.

2

In date

Registration can lapse. We check the status is current, because a lapsed contractor cannot issue valid certificates while they're out of date.

3

Insured

Registered contractors hold public liability cover. We confirm it's on file — it's what protects you if something goes wrong.

4

Can certify

Only an in-date registered contractor can issue a valid completion certificate — your legal proof the work was done to standard.

What the verdicts mean

Green — registered and active

All four checks pass. Registered, in date, insured and able to certify. Proceed — and still get your certificate in writing.

!
Orange — with caution

On the register, but something is off — usually a lapsed registration. Ask them to confirm they're back in date before you commit.

Red — not verified

No match on the register. Ask for their number and check again — but don't assume they can certify the work.

Where the data comes from

Our checks are built around the Safe Electric register — the official record of Registered Electrical Contractors in the Republic of Ireland. It's the single source that tells you whether someone is genuinely authorised to carry out and certify electrical work.

We're an independent guide, not the regulator. We don't set registrations, issue certificates or take payment from contractors to appear here. For anything you're about to pay for, treat our result as a head start and confirm the contractor's current status directly at safeelectric.ie.

One thing we can't check

Registration tells you someone is qualified and accountable. It can't tell you they'll be tidy, on time or good value — that's what reviews, quotes and the cost guide are for.
